“Mere servants we are of the truth… Whirling above the remnants of our past. Struggling to breathe, scraping the flesh from its bone. As the days darken, and the breeze thins in the depths of the void. No wounds to heal, no filth to wash, as the throne cares not for it all … Only the numb be brave enough to defy what others had left to decay. To claim, once-and-for-all, the lawful right to be embraced by those in the Halls of the Great!”

Summary

The sudden murder of a king left us unexpectedly next in line to the throne, and in charge of the realm. The days are spent serving the people, fighting to keep it all together, whilst the past haunts us to no end. As nothing is what it may seem, nor can we spare the moment to breathe.

About

Crún is a game set in a fictional medieval setting influenced by Norse culture, purely driven by your choices to solve problems, to create a blend between traditional storytelling and multiple genres. The game revolves around being unexpectedly bestowed to rule a kingdom and face the many challenges that the people might bring forth. All the while facing the inner demons of the court and yourself, whilst keeping the realm intact and out of harm’s way. Your actions have dire consequences as those are solely responsible for turning the wheels of time, and bringing this world to life.

The core of the game is heavily inspired by old Fighting Fantasy gamebooks and governed by traditional literature. The latter is devoted to bring thought provoking, hard to find and lasting stories with characters that speak for themselves and act upon.

Gameplay

From the very first moment of choosing your path, your choices will shape the outcome of your future, as those will command the way you will see the world. The Great Hall will be the place most time spent in, where people from across the realm will come to visit and share their worries, and request for your guidance. This is how the story will unfold itself, based on your actions, in this forever changing environment.

Above conversing, the realm will also need counseling in the form of keeping a pulse on the inner workings of the realm: Mostly centered around making decisions, rather than micro-managing it all. That is why the option to visit other places than the throne is granted, to provide you with the tools you need to successfully govern the kingdom.

And when the time comes to decide your fate, dice will come for the rescue. Some will be in the shape you remember, some will bear the markings of others. As when the night falls, and the first light shines across the realm, the heavens will open before you to challenge your inner demons and to grow as a person.

And for last, if you leave the Great Hall, and decide to visit the Traveling Theater (to issue upgrades for your kingdom), you will find a small adventure in the shape of a gamebook: Where fantasy will come alive with monsters, beasts, and magic, lived through the traversal of a scenario. Which will only end if a goal is truly met.
