Battling hordes of gnomes


Welcome to the first update to Falterstone!

After the soft launch of this prototype (a game about mining and some fighting), work has begun on adding more depth to what was there already. And as the goal is to create something fun and enjoyable, this time around the focus was to add some challenge to the mix in the form of enemies; because running around and mining stone is just not enough.

These pesky gnomes were added, next to a bunch of other things (like potions, or auras), to continue building on the foundations of the game. You must be careful around them, as they can quickly overrun you, if you aren't careful enough. Or accidentally die in a cave-in.

There were surprise challenges, like "fixing" the pathfinding (as in writing it from scratch), or hunting bugs for a few days, to make sure at least the functions (like drinking, picking up stuff) work to some degree. What makes this project unique and fun, in my eyes anyway, is the whole "let's make something quick, and figure out the rest"; hence the shabby look of the project, for anyone asking (also, this is just a prototype). Although, some aspects still need a lot of attention (to make them work).

While a bunch of things could be added, like (more/proper) crafting, more items, etc., a different pack of things are planned for the next update, which should put more of a twist on mining for resources. Well, we will see...
